SPOKHAND X DEAFLYMPICS - Interview of Jon (USA, Basketball)

Oct 10, 2025

Introduction – Beyond the Court

Hello, I’m Jon Mowl, and I’m proud to represent the United States in basketball at the Deaflympics 2025 in Tokyo.

Basketball has always been more than a sport for me, it’s a way of life, a way to connect, to challenge myself, and to inspire others through teamwork and passion.

Preparation – The Daily Grind

My days start early.

I wake up before sunrise, take care of my two kids waking them up, playing with them, then it’s time to train.

Mornings are for lifting and running.

At noon, I focus on shooting, 300, 400, sometimes even 500 shots a day.

In the evening, it’s scrimmage time either league games or pickup games with friends.

Every moment is a step toward being ready for Tokyo.

Beyond Sport – Play with ASL

Outside of basketball, I’m the founder of Play with ASL, a gaming app that helps people learn American Sign Language through fun and interactive play.

I’ve always loved games, they make learning exciting and memorable.

For me, this project combines my two passions: gaming and community.

It’s not just about language, it’s about connection, joy, and inclusion.

Message – Play Hard, Stay United

To all athletes and fans around the world, I wish you nothing but the best.

Have fun, stay focused, and never stop chasing your goals.

Whether it’s on the court or in life, remember:

Teamwork, respect, and heart, that’s how we win.
