SPOKHAND X DEAFLYMPICS - Interview of Midori (Japan, Athletic)

Sep 26, 2025

Introduction – Sprinting Toward Her Dream

Hello! My name is Midori, and I’m honored to represent Japan at the Deaflympics 2025 in Tokyo.

I’m a track & field athlete, specializing in sprinting events, and my journey is all about pushing limits and inspiring others.

I usually train 4–5 times a week, and every two weeks I dedicate a focused 3-hour session at this stadium. With the Deaflympics approaching in November, I’m ready to give my very best.

Journey – Discovering Sign Language

I was born Deaf, but I didn’t grow up with sign language.

It was during the Deaflympics in Bulgaria that my life began to change, I met other Deaf athletes and started to learn sign language.

With hearing people, I mostly communicate orally. But with the Deaf community, I discovered a language that truly reflects my identity. Learning sign language gave me strength, connection, and confidence.

Competition – Tokyo 2025

This November, I will compete in two sprint relay events:

  • The Mixed 4×100 Relay

  • The Women’s 4×100 Relay

My goal is to push myself to the limit, to compete at the highest level, and yes — I hope to win a medal in both events.

Message – Unity Through Sport

As the Tokyo Deaflympics draw near, I feel the energy of athletes and supporters from all around the world.

My dream is simple: that Deaf and hearing people come together, support one another, and celebrate what we can achieve as one.

Together, anything is possible.
